Welcome to the Country Music Highway

With talent so abundant in the lush region of the Appalachian Mountains, people have said time and time again that there must be something in the water. Claiming the heritage of legends such as Loretta Lynn, The Judds, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tom T. Hall, Ricky Skaggs, Keith Whitley, Dwight Yoakam, and many more, US Highway 23 was aptly deemed the Country Music Highway and hailed as a National Scenic Byway.

Travelling down this highway rich with music and deeply-rooted values, you can begin in Greenup County with the historic Paramount Arts Center, where Billy Ray’s famous Achy Breaky Heart video was filmed, and end in Letcher County, where the Appalshop hosts a multitude of Appalachian and Bluegrass concerts. In between lies a plethora of venues, festivals, shops, and concert halls, all glowing with Southern pride and an immense love for the music and its people.

Nestled between the breath-taking beauty of the Appalachian Mountain range, the Country Music Highway is filled with history, heritage, and an atmosphere sure to make you feel like you’ve come home. Resorts such as Jenny Wiley State Park and Greenbo State Resort Park provide you with an ethereal serenity, where you can appreciate the beauty of nature with activities such as hiking, boating, and fishing; or if you just want to relax and step away from the world for a while.
The Country Music Highway is a wonderful vacation destination for anybody with a deep love for music, history, and natural beauty. For a place that provides such a multitude of talent and hospitality, surely there really is something in the water.
